A Wedding, Parliament, and What Too Much Wine Will Make You Do

So there's going to be this wedding here in April. I'm guessing it's the wedding of the century and whatnot....and okay I'm going to shrug off the uncaring attitude because I'm so excited I'll be here for Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton. As American I get that I shouldn't give a damn about what the outdated and expensive monarchy of a foreign country does but I do. My friend Grete and I already are planning on camping out for the thing. This truly is a once in a lifetime event. This is the Obama inauguration of Britain. A prince marrying a commoner - well, they don't technically use that term anymore but whatever. I'm thrilled...that I'll get to stand outside for two days waiting to see the future King of England trot by in a carriage that's worth more than any house I'll ever own.

In other exciting news, I went to the Houses of Parliament today. Okay, well any idiot can do that but I actually got to go inside and look around the place. Talk about impressive. I saw the throne Queen Elizabeth sits on at the state opening of Parliament and stood where David Cameron stands during PM Question Time.

Highlights and Pigeons

It appears the highlights of my time here in England will be not acquiring knowledge or earning my master's degree but rather attending the Harry Potter premieres (which I did last Thursday evening) and seeing a royal wedding. I'm not sure I could have picked a more perfect time to study abroad.

As a side note, I really wish they'd do something, anything, about the pigeons here. They're awful. Horrendous. I'm terrified one is going to fly into me. A rather stupid woman today dumped a bag of something on the ground in Russell Square and was promptly surrounded by about 150 birds. Serves her right. Honestly. I happened to be running through the square and had I put a hand up I could have plucked one from the sky. That close.

Overheard

The best thing overheard while standing outside in the rain and cold for four hours at the Harry Potter premiere last night: "Where the fuck is Alan Rickman?" in German.

Said man never graced us mere muggles with his presence.

Wine Is Better With Company...

Because when I drink it alone, I always ended up going to Match.com. Well, maybe it's not so much the wine itself but the combination of drinking it on a Saturday night at home while reading an article about suicide terrorism for a class.
